Christmas day in the bathroom

Well the bath is in the bathroom, but the cast iron feet are on the window sill having been painted gold -very festive. We have had no one in the B&B for 3 weeks, so the other bathrooms have been getting a facelift. The  west wing bathroom has been repainted and the curtains washed and ironed and is awaiting its yearly regrouting. Our shower room needs a touch of paint and regrouting, and the lavender shower room needs new sealant, so Dave is concentrating on the maintenance jobs for now. Dave bought me a book on bathroom ceramics and water supply for Christmas, and I bought two William de Morgan tiles to go among the plain white tiles for the sink splashback. Its funny how you search for tiles for ages, then they appear on an antique programme and everywhere you look you start to see information on them For those not familiar with the Arts and Crafts era, de Morgan was to tile what Moorcroft is to tube lined vases. Antiques are the original recycling, and I have a bottom drawer full of bits and bathroom books I collected to go in the bathroom. I also managed to get a white wood corner shelf unit for 99p last week so I would have somewhere to put them all. If the weather stays fine I will have to get the garden tidied up, but once Dave has finished putting the electrics in the bathroom I will be able to get the filler out and get the walls above the dado rail painted, and the Heath Robinson print of the first railway carriage bathroom hung on the wall.

the chance to make an eco bathroom from scratch

having an office through the cupboard in the bedroom with a water heater that kept me awake made me think what if..............................................................
what I would really like for Christmas was a roll top bath I could soak in after a long cold cycle ride, but baths are not supposed to be eco freindly are they, and we do nothing if its not organic, fairtrade, reused and recycled and generally good for the planet. The garden outside our bedroom is south facing, and I wanted to put another water butt below the bedroom window anyway, so how about if we connected a recycled bath, bidet and basin to a water butt and used our grey water for the garden? The office is better in the back of the sitting room anyway, but I didnt realise how long it was going to take to strip out and find new homes for all that junk Dave had in his office. Changing the old cupboard louvre doors for a nice new FSC timber one means I dont have to hear the heater any more, and Im rather proud of reclaiming the wallpaper and dado rail and pelmet from inside the wardrobe to finish the bedroom wall to match the rest. Dave has stripped out and reused all the old electrics now and Ive finally got the horrible old nylon carpet out and the walls stripped of paper. We got the bathroom suite on ebay for a total of £53.98 for all three from Darlington and Hartlepool so once the holes are filled, the electrics and plumbing can finally start to go in and its nearly Christmas again...............
